Promises

Behind me is an amazing house… No, you can’t really see it in the picture, but I’ll describe it to you (I don’t know the owners and I don’t want to invade their privacy by putting their house online).  

This home is on a private road lined by older custom and semi custom homes with large lots.  It sits at the very end of the street and has a heavy motorized gate that opens to reveal a long driveway and park like garden with walking paths which lead to the front of a home that is built to resemble a castle.

I pass by it almost daily as I go for my morning walk or jog.  I’ve been going by it for years now, yet every time I pass by I can’t help but slow down to take in the details of this amazing home.  At first, I was just impressed with the architecture, but over time I have created a story in my mind that makes me smile, warms my heart, and motivates me every time I walk or run by this amazing place.  I’ll share it with you:

As I make my way up the hill and approach the fence line, I glance over to take in the beauty of the home.  I think of a young couple just starting out… They are making ends meet, but are struggling to get ahead.  After experiencing a particularly tough time, they take solace in each other’s embrace.  The young man, filled with the desire to never experience hardship again, looks deep in to his partner’s eyes and makes a promise that they will “make it”.  He promises her that one day, he is going to build her the home of her dreams and she will be the queen of their very own castle.

As I continue on, I admire the details of the structure and I think of how they both worked hard to achieve their dreams, choose this beautiful setting, and proudly built this home where they live happily.

Who knows what the real story is.  I really don’t think I want to know… I like the one I’ve made up because it makes me smile when I go by and fills my spirit with the desire to succeed for my family.

We all start out with big hopes and dreams.  But, “life” often gets in the way and we lose sight of those things we wanted to achieve or don’t know how to start down a path to get there.
